Two teams short on confidence came into the Renato Dall'Ara on Saturday, and they left looking exactly like it. Bologna and Torino, both carrying losing streaks into this Serie A fixture, played out a 1-1 draw that felt less like a shared point and more like a shared sigh.

Our pre-match read made Bologna the favorite at 48%, and for a while, it looked like that would hold.

Bernardeschi Opens It Up

The hosts got what they wanted in the 14th minute. Federico Bernardeschi found the net to put Bologna in front, and given the way things had been going for both sides, it looked like it might be enough. Bologna were content to sit on it — 40% possession, 18 fouls, a single corner all night. Not pretty, but it was a lead.

Torino had the ball and kept having it. They finished with nearly 60% possession and 467 passes to Bologna's 323, moving it around without much end product. Daniel Bragança picked up a yellow in the 30th minute for Torino, and the visitors kept knocking without finding a way through.

Kulenovic Rescues a Point

The equalizer came in the 77th minute, and it came from a combination that will sting Bologna. Rolando Mandragora slipped the ball to Sandro Kulenovic, who finished to level the match. One minute later, Nathan Patterson was booked — Torino's third yellow of the night, joining Bragança and Rafik Belghali — which gives you a sense of how the final stretch felt: scrappy, tense, and ultimately goalless after the equalizer.

The numbers tell a lopsided story in terms of territory. Torino put 14 shots up to Bologna's 11, but only three were on target. Bologna managed just one shot on target all night. Qué partido tan cerrado — neither side really deserved more than what they got.

The Bigger Picture

Bologna will feel this one. They were the better side to win according to the pre-match read, they scored first, and they had the lead deep into the second half. Sitting on 40% possession while fouling 18 times is a strategy that asks a lot of your defense, and eventually it cost them.

Torino, meanwhile, add a draw to a form line that reads DLWLL. It stops the bleeding slightly, but a point at a rival's ground after being a goal down is the kind of result that feels better on paper than it does in the dressing room.

The question now is whether either of these clubs can string something together before the international break. Right now, both look like teams still searching for an identity — and a point apiece doesn't change that.
